LRFW and non-profit organization partner to make 'big' influence

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Little Rock Fashion Week (LRFW) is proud to announce that a new non-profit partner for LRFW 2011 is Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arkansas (BBBSCA). Brandon D. Campbell, founder and executive director of LRFW, selected BBBSCA because of their significant contributions to improving the lives of children in our community.

Campbell knows the difference the organization makes in the lives of children because he too has been directly influenced by the organization.  From age eight to eleven years old, Campbell was a "Little."
 
"The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arkansas provided me with so many great eye-opening first time experiences, so I think it's only fitting that I help give other children their first major fashion experience," Campbell explains.

Magic Springs presents Neon Trees

Neon Trees’ first single “Animal” has climbed to No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Alternative Rock Chart.  Like their name, Neon Trees offer a combination of slick pop hooks and sturdy organic rock, both melodic and hard hitting; their anthems of adolescent angst, longing, love lost and found, delivered with the kind of heart-on-the-sleeve passion that only comes from hard work and commitment.  Neon Trees is the fourth of 12 concerts scheduled every Saturday night through August 13, at Magic Springs Water and Theme Park.
 
The concert is Saturday, June 18, at the Magic Springs Timberwood Amphitheater.  Concert gates open at 6 p.m.; show starts at 8 p.m.

Miss Arkansas Pageant offers free tickets to students

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. –  The Miss Arkansas Scholarship Pageant is proud to announce that there will be free tickets for students available at this year’s pageant.  On Wednesday and Thursday, July 13 and 14, Junior High and High School spirit squads are invited to attend the Preliminary competition free!    Spirit squad members must wear their uniform / team gear in order to receive complimentary admission. 

On Friday and Saturday, July 15 and 16, fraternity and sorority members will be able to watch the final night of preliminary competition and the crowning night for free as well!  Greek members are asked to wear their letters or pin in order to gain complimentary admission. 

For both groups, there will be a table set up outside the Convention Center, on the Embassy Suites side near the box office.  Spirit Squad members and Greeks are asked to check in between 6:30 p.m.

Playing pirate just isn't fun anymore

The first question that comes to mind is, "Why in the world would they make another Pirates movie?" The first one was fun, the second one too long, and the third one too confusing for a film that was based on a theme park ride. The franchise seemed to wrap itself up nicely, so why would they make another one?

The answer is money. The studio knows that people will go see it. I read that Johnny Depp was paid $55 million to resume the role of Captain Jack Sparrow, which brings me to two conclusions: either he had no interest in playing the role again and that was that magical number of zeros it took, or he is such a smart man that he knows how much money a fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" film would make and that the studio knew it would sink without him manning the wheel.

'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' opens Friday

Pirates of the Caribbean -- installment No. 4 -- arrives in theaters this week. Along with Johnny Depp, you get Penelope Cruz. Other new films include Bloodworth with Kris Kristofferson and Kill the Irishman with Ray Stevenson.

Calling all models

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- It's that time of year again! Little Rock Fashion Week is just around the corner, and prospective models are coming from all corners of the state for their chance to walk the walk at the big event.

The LRFW 2011 Model Search is May 21-22 at Moody Chapel AME Church (5630 Mabelvale Pike) in Little Rock. THV's Lauren Clark is one of the judges for the event, and she sat down for a chat with Executive Director Brandon Campbell about what to expect at the audition.
