AMHC, Arkansas Cancer Coalition to offer free health screenings at State Fair Oct. 16

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Join the Arkansas Minority Health Commission and the Arkansas Cancer Coalition at the Arkansas State Fair on Thursday, Oct. 16 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. These two organizations have partnered to offer free health screenings. Fair goers can stop by the Hall of Industry for preventive health checks including blood pressure, pulse, glucose, cholesterol and BMI (Body Mass Index).

Exhibitors will offer information on health, wellness, fitness and lifestyle improvement.

College Night, sponsored by 100.3 the Edge, is Thursday. There’s free gate admission for college students with valid school I.D. from 6 p.m. to close.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (October 1, 2014) — Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield is hosting a free "Boo with Blue" Halloween party from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, October 10. Participants are encouraged to come in a costume, ready to dance! "Boo with Blue" will feature a costume competition with prizes for the best costumes, trick-or-treating and a "Move More" dance party.

All Arkansas Blue Cross members will receive free admission to this kid-friendly party. If you don't carry Arkansas Blue Cross insurance, you can stop by ArkansasBlue, located in Little Rock, Pine Bluff or Hot Springs, to pick up free tickets while supplies last.

Red Cross blood donation events for October

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Red Cross) — The American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to give blood during Liver Awareness Month this October.

According to the American Liver Foundation, more than 6,000 liver transplants are performed each year in the U.S., making it the second most common transplant. Liver transplant patients may require in excess of 30 pints of blood during surgery. Volunteer donors are the only source of blood for those in need of transfusions during surgery.

Donors with all blood types are currently needed, especially those with types O negative, A negative and B negative. All those who attempt to donate blood during October will be eligible to win a $5,000 Visa gift card, courtesy of Suburban Propane.

Magic Springs finishes summer with final water park weekend on September 27, 28

Magic Springs Water and Theme Park announced the water park only will be open for its final weekend on Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, September 28, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $15 per person and the park will be offering 50% off on special meal deals and an all-you-can-eat buffet, $9.99 for adults and $6.99 for children 10 and under.

The park will reopen Saturday, October 11 for its annual Halloween festival “Magic Screams,” continuing each Saturday and Sunday through November 2 including Halloween, Friday, Oct. 31.

Little Rock, Ark - Brandon D. Campbell, Little Rock Fashion Week's founder and executive producer, will produce the bridal fashion shows at the 5th annual An Unforgettable Bridal Fair & Special Events Expo on Sunday September 28, 2014 at the Hot Springs Convention Center, located at 134 Convention Blvd. at Hot Springs, AR 71902.

“I’m excited to be working on the bridal runway shows again,” says Campbell. “The clothing styles that will be seen are going to amaze guests. Everyone should expect an out of the box type of bridal show that will provide a positive and enjoyable experience.”

More protesting on Tuesday for disabled rights


LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - More demonstrations were held on Tuesday after protesters bombarded the Arkansas Health Care Association Headquarters.

On Monday, dozens gathered with a disability rights group refusing to give up the fight for their rights.

The group wants the ability to choose their support instead of being forced into nursing facilities and institutions.

Little Rock police were called to U.S. Representative Mike Ross' office on Tuesday afternoon and have made more arrests for disorderly conduct for people refusing to get out of the street.
