Little Rock, AR – The registration deadline for Camp iRock has been extended to July 11. The Arkansas Minority Health Commission (AMHC) will host the fourth annual all-girl fitness and nutrition camp, Sunday, August 10 through Saturday, August 16. The experience will take place at Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center, 1720 Ferncliff Road in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Designed exclusively for girls in sixth, seventh and eighth grades, Camp iRock offers fun educational activities, workshops and exercises aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles, physical activity and self-confidence. Forty girls from across Arkansas will be selected to attend the camp free of charge. To apply or to learn about camper criteria visit, www.campirock.com.

According to the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement, one in three Arkansas public school students is overweight or at risk for becoming overweight. These children have a higher risk of developing diabetes, hypertension and other chronic diseases.

“The Arkansas Minority Health Commission is proud of the success of our three previous camps and our campers, and we are continuing that positive impact in 2014,” says Dr. Idonia Trotter, executive director of the AMHC. “Providing this experience to girls in minority communities is vital to addressing the health disparities that AMHC focuses on.”

Camp iRock 2014 is made possible through the collaborative efforts of the AMHC, Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the Girl Scout-Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas.
