Volunteers needed for MS bike benefit

Volunteers needed for MS bike benefit

The National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society-Arkansas is looking for volunteers to help with the Bike MS: Rock’n Hot Ride. On September 8 and 9, more than 150 cyclists are expected to ride and help raise the goal of $95,000. Funds raised will support direct services and programs for the more than 2,900 people living with MS and their families in Arkansas and national MS research to find a cure for this chronic disease of the central nervous system. But they will not be able to do it without the help of people like you!

Volunteers have a variety of motivations fo r involvement. Dawn Sanders from Bryant, Ark., is involved this year because she has made a resolution to stay involved in her community. "It is so rewarding to see the event come together," said Dawn.

Big Brothers Big Sisters partners with LRFW

(July 6, 2012) Little Rock, AR - Little Rock Fashion Week (LRFW) is teaming up for the second consecutive year with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arkansas (BBBSCA), as its non-profit partner.

Last year, LRFW partnered with BBBSCA to help recruit more mentors, raise funds, and bring more community awareness to BBBSCA's goals of providing "children facing adversity with strong and enduring one on one professionally supported relationships." For Campbell, who was a "little" from age eight to eleven years old, his participation inspired him to do more. This upcoming school year, Campbell will be a mentor to a "little" in elementary school.

"Being a mentor is my life's purpose. It had been a dream of mine for years. After LRFW 2011, I knew the timing was right for me to make it official," says Campbell. "I believe that a great work ethic and transferring it to community involvement makes a bigger impact.

Graces Guild celebrates fifth anniversary with luncheon honoring Anita Cabe

Five years ago, the Graces Guild was born when seven ladies invited two hundred of their friends to support a young musician and artist who had lost her home and piano to Hurricane Katrina.  Since that time, the network of friends has grown in pursuit of their common goal, supporting the arts in Hot Springs and the surrounding region through the Muses Creative Arts Project.

Fountain Lake walk-a-thon to raise cash for Heifer

From an email sent in to Today's THV:

Location: Hot Springs Arkansas at Fountain Lake School

Time/Date: Friday, April 27th 9:00-2:00

This is a 4th grade project that the students have been trying to accomplish since the beginning of the school year.  The 4th grade decided to make their goal an ark for the Heifer International Program.  We have been studying the Heifer program all school year and have done many different fundraisers and activities that have been student led or  teacher led to raise the money.  An ark is $5000, the highest goal to reach.  Not only is the 4th grade leading the pack for this fundraiser, but the preschool thru 3rd grade is now involved.
