People fighting cancer and the people who love and care for them now have a place to go when they need assistance in coping with all aspects of the disease.

Our Promise Cancer Resources, a new nonprofit organization providing financial assistance and resources to cancer patients in south central Arkansas, will officially open at its Kick-Off event from 5:30-7 p.m. at Central Park Fusion Cuisine at 200 Park Ave. in Hot Springs on Tuesday, April 19.

Our Promise serves cancer patients and their families in Clark, Garland, Hot Spring, Montgomery and Polk Counties, and the organization will help clients with prescription and financial assistance, resources, outreach, involvement, support services and education.  Those attending the Kick-Off will enjoy hors d'oeuvres and cash bar by Central Park Fusion Cuisine, whose food selections are shaped by chef Matt Fuller’s travels, interests in other cultures, food, flavors and traditions.  The event is free to attend, and contributions to Our Promise’s programs are encouraged.

“This organization was conceived by a group of oncologists and community members who are concerned about patients who cannot afford nor have access to the resources they must have,” said Brenda Hawkes, executive director of Our Promise.  “Our mission is to provide caring, professional support and education to cancer patients, survivors and caregivers through direct financial assistance, social programs and educational services.”

A 501c3 nonprofit founded in March 2010, Our Promise will assist patients in active therapy and recovery from any treatment facility within the five-county area.  Support is not limited to specific oncology groups or types of cancer; in fact, Our Promise’s resources and services are available to all residents of Clark, Garland, Hot Spring, Montgomery and Polk Counties in Arkansas.
