HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — For the first time in Garland County, dog lovers are getting ready to celebrate Relay For Life (RFL) with their four-legged loved ones by participating in American Cancer Society’s (ACS) “Bark For Life” of Garland County.

This noncompetitive day-time walk event for dogs and their owners is patterned after ASC’s signature fundraising event, Relay For Life, and is being held to raise funds and awareness for the fight against cancer.  As “man’s best friend,” canines represent joy, security, compassion and no judgment of human appearances or abilities.  They can help us humans make a difference in the fight for a cure.

“We are very excited to host the first ever Bark For Life in our area,” said Charlotte Davis, BFL Co-Chair.  “It presents an opportunity for people to be empowered through their canine companion partnerships and to contribute to cancer cures through the mission of the American Cancer Society.  As a dog lover and owner, I know this is going to be a super fun and different kind of event.  We invite everyone to come enjoy it and support a great cause while showing off your dogs!”

Bark For Life will be held on Saturday, March 26 at Magic Springs & Crystal Falls on Hwy 70 East in Hot Springs from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.  The community is invited to bring their best canine friend and join us for a fun-filled day of walking, demonstrations, contests, games, food, and vendors.  Pre-registration fees are $10 per participant and first dog; $5 for an additional dog (limit two dogs per participant).  Participants can register the day of the event for $20 per person and first dog; $5 for additional dog.

Last year, Bark For Life canine events were held in more than 100 locations nationwide.  Garland County’s Bark For Life is being coordinated by Team Weyerhaeuser with assistance and sponsorship from many organizations and businesses from the community.
