Pickleball sweeps Hot Springs

HOT SPRINGS, AR – Pickleball is sweeping the U.S.A. as a great inter-generational fitness activity and now Hot Springs and surrounding area residents can experience this sport starting January 18 at the YMCA.

A court game of angles and strategies, of position and speed, pickleball is enjoying huge increases in popularity with seniors, school kids and families.

Pickleball is a fun court sport played on a badminton-sized court with a perforated plastic ball similar to a whiffle ball. Players use wood or composite paddles about twice the size of ping-pong paddles.  It can be played indoors or outdoors, and it’s easy for beginners to learn – but can develop into a fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players.  In addition to being fun, the game has developed a reputation for its friendly and social nature.

Beginning January 18 pickleball will be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Hot Springs YMCA (130 Werner St., 501 623-8803).  Demos and clinics will be provided as this exciting sport is introduced.
