Stop speeding before it stops you

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 13,000 lives were lost across America in speeding-related traffic crashes during 2005.

NHTSA considers a crash to be speeding-related if the driver was charged with a speeding-related offense, or if the responding officer indicates that the driver was driving too fast for conditions at the time or was exceeding the posted speed limit.  In 2005, speeding was a contributing factor in 30 percent of all fatal crashes nationally.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. -- Officials with the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) have announced plans to change the traffic pattern at the intersection of Westinghouse Drive and the Highway 70B north frontage road (East Grand Avenue) in Hot Springs.

Currently operating as a “Four-Way Stop” intersection, plans call for removing the Stop signs on Westinghouse Drive allowing motorists on Westinghouse Drive the right of way through the intersection without stopping.  The north frontage road traffic will continue to stop.

The new traffic pattern will begin on Thursday, July 7.  The Department will be adding "Cross Traffic Does Not Stop" signs advising traffic on the frontage road of the revision.  Message boards will also be placed on the frontage road for each direction for 30 days advising traffic of the change.
