Work on HWY 70 in Saline, Garland Counties will require lane closure

LITTLE ROCK (AHTD) – Work on Highway 70 will require lane closures in Garland and Saline counties between Hot Springs and Interstate 30, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

Crews will be performing geotechnical drilling and sampling in preparation for widening Highway 70. The closures will be weekdays, Monday, March 3 through Friday, March 14, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using cones and flaggers.

The moving lane closures will begin on the eastbound lane at Hot Springs near mile marker 3 and continue to I-30. Once drilling and sampling is complete on the eastbound lane, crews will perform work on the westbound lane, beginning at I-30 and moving toward Hot Springs.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AHTD) - The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) reminds drivers to visit IDriveArkansas.com before hitting the road this Thanksgiving holiday.

Extensive highway improvements are underway in the state. With those improvements come work zones. To aid in your holiday travel, AHTD has been working hard to open as many lanes as possible.

Still, with many ongoing improvements, travelers will likely face work zones and possible delays due to an increased volume of traffic.

Drivers are urged to plan ahead by visiting IDriveArkansas.com for the latest travel information. The new website includes live traffic flow, weather information, and details on construction zones.  Travelers can also follow us on Twitter @AHTD.

Pavement work will cause lane closures in Hot Springs

LITTLE ROCK (AHTD) – Pavement work requires a lane closure on Highway 270 (Albert Pike Road) in Hot Springs, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

Crews will be installing a new driveway at the new AHTD Garland County Headquarters. The work will require closing the westbound lane about a mile west of Crystal Hill Road.

The closure will be Tuesday, November 12th through Friday, November 15th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.  Traffic will be controlled using cones, warning signs and flaggers.

AHTD announces new travel, construction information web site

LITTLE ROCK (AHTD) - Motorists navigating the state highway system can now do so more safely and efficiently thanks to a new travel and construction information web site developed by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department. 

IDRIVEARKANSAS.com is an Internet destination that enables the public to locate construction work zones on the state highway system and determine if current traffic conditions require an adjustment in travel plans. Additional layers of data can be toggled on and off to provide motorists with an overall understanding of what is happening on the state highway system.

LITTLE ROCK (4-12) – The city of Hot Springs is requesting an overnight “through traffic” closure next week on a section of Highway 7 (Central Avenue), according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

A large crane being used at the Fordyce Bathhouse will require all lanes of traffic to be closed to through traffic on Central Avenue between Reserve Street and the fountain located at the intersection of Whittington and Central Avenues. Local access to businesses within the affected area will be allowed as safety permits. The closure will be Tuesday, April 16 at 8:00 p.m. through Wednesday, April 17 at 6:00 a.m., weather permitting.

Northbound traffic will be detoured using Exchange Street. Southbound traffic will be diverted using Whittington Avenue and West Mountain Drive. Trucks will be detoured to Highway 7 Spur.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. -- Crews will install an overhead sign on Highway 70 in Hot Springs Thursday night into Friday morning, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

The overhead sign will span the eastbound lanes of Highway 70 (Martin Luther King Expressway) just prior to the Spring Street and Highway 70B (East Grand Avenue) overpasses. Spring Street and Highway 70B will not be affected.

The project will begin Thursday, January 31 at 11:00 p.m. It will be complete by Friday, February 1 at 5 a.m., weather permitting. Traffic in the eastbound lanes of the Highway 70 (Martin Luther King Expressway) may be stopped for short intervals up to ten minutes.   

Motorists should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones.

Highway meeting to be rescheduled

LITTLE ROCK (1-11) - The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) has announced that the Public Involvement Meeting scheduled for next week in Hot Springs has been postponed, according to AHTD officials.

The meeting, originally scheduled for January 15, was to discuss plans for widening 1.5 miles of Highway 7 to five lanes in the Lake Hamilton community, extending from the Ouachita River (Lake Hamilton) southward to Highway 290.

AHTD officials involved in the design of the project are considering revisions to the original design in order to reduce the number of impacts to property owners in the project vicinity.

The public meeting will be rescheduled at a future date.
