From the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks Barn Notes:

Robert Yagos’ Arkansas Derby winner Archarcharch indicated his readiness for Kentucky Derby 137 by working a bullet five furlongs in :59.40 under jockey Jon Court after the renovation break Friday morning.

Hot Springs, Ark. -- Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUMs) showing newly designated motorized vehicle routes on the Ouachita National Forest will be available to the public on May 9.  According to Ouachita National Forest Supervisor Norm Wagoner issuance of the maps will officially implement the Forest’s Travel Management Project.

“On May 9, the maps will be posted on our forest website,” he said.  “That will be the official start to implementation of the new route designations.”

He said the public can obtain a map of the area where they travel by visiting their closest Ouachita National Forest Ranger District office or by printing online maps.  The online maps will be configured to print sections that can be taped together resulting in a full size map.

Smiling Tiger rolls to Count Fleet Victory

Smiling Tiger rolls to Count Fleet Victory

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – For years humans have come to Hot Springs to “take in the spas” and relax. Phil Lebherz and Alan Klein sent their star horse Smiling Tiger to Oaklawn Park to learn to relax. The results were a comfortable 2 ½-length victory over Silver Magnus in Thursday’s $200,000 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap (G3).

High-strung and troublesome in his early career, the 4-year-old Hold That Tiger colt has matured for trainer Jeff Bonde. Smiling Tiger started slowly from the gate at Oaklawn while Chief of Affairs set quick fractions of 22.29 and 44.74. When the pacesetter was engaged by Silver Magnus on the turn, Smiling Tiger’s team had to grow big smiles. Rosario swept to the leaders in mid-stretch and handily cruised through the rest of the six furlongs in 1:08.63.
