Board to look at Oaklawn parking lot proposal

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) -- The city of Hot Springs and Oaklawn are at odds over parking.

THV11 spoke with Oaklawn representatives and residents about what they thought about the empty lot on Alpine and Bell streets possibly becoming a parking lot.

"It's going to be all parking lot, it really makes an eye sore for us."

Those are the words that some neighbors around Oaklawn are saying about the new empty lot that could become a parking lot for the track.

With the rezoning request that will be heard by the Hot Springs Board of Directors, some people don't want a parking lot there. They say it could be dangerous crossing busy Central Avenue on race day.

"They should have a walk way across Central Avenue for folks walking across. In fact we had an accident just two or three days ago...that person got hit by a car,” said Tracy Zander, a neighbor.

"We bought some property over there. We have some lots over there now, and we recently brought some property over there that has been parking for 20, 25 years and that's not going to change,” said David Longinotti, Director of Racing.

The Hot Springs Board of Directors will look at an appeal for the zoning request on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
