HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) – A former employee of Habitat for Humanity in Hot Springs has been arrested in connection with a shooting at the business on Wednesday.

Around 5 p.m., Hot Springs police responded to a shooting in the parking lot of Habitat For Humanity at 305 Malvern Avenue.

The victim, who is also the manager for Habitat For Humanity, was found in the parking lot with a single gunshot wound to his upper body. He identified the shooter as 58-year-old Patrick Lee McElroy.

Police reports state that the manager was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

McElroy had reportedly been terminated from his job at Habitat For Humanity recently. He was found less than an hour after the shooting in the Hot Springs Mountain Tower parking lot with a firearm in his vehicle.

He was arrested and taken to the Garland County Detention Center and charged with first degree battery. His bond is set at $5,000.
