Three men, 1 teen arrested in rest stop robbery

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) – Three men and one teenager have been arrested in connection to a local highway rest stop robbery that happened on Tuesday.

When deputies arrived to the rest area in the 4600 block of Highway 70 East, they spoke with three victims who stated that they were there to meet Javin Cranford to sell a bottle of prescription cough syrup.

The victim said that he and Cranford had gotten into an argument, and another man got out of the suspect vehicle and pointed a handgun at him, demanding that he empty his pockets. The suspect also stole a cell phone and other items from the two other passengers in the car.

The suspects then left the scene heading east on Highway 70.

According to Lt. Jeff Silk, state police stopped a vehicle near the 123 mile marker along I-30 westbound matching the description of the vehicle connected to the robbery.

The four suspects, Javin Cranford, 18, Stephen Newborn, 18, Moses Turner, 18, and a 17-year-old were taken into custody and transported to the Garland County Detention Center.

The suspects were charged with three counts of aggravated robbery and other charges are pending.
