Alleged drunk driver hits and kills pedestrian in Hot Springs

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) - A drunk driver hit and killed a pedestrian on Central Avenue Wednesday night.

Police responded to a vehicle-pedestrian accident at around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the driver of a 1996 Acura Integra, James Goff. According to reports, Goff was traveling down Central Avenue, when he hit a pedestrian crossing between the Crosswalk Bar and Oaklawn Race Track. 

Officials stated that the victim's injuries appeared severe, so he was transported to St. Vincent Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries while in the emergency room. 

When asked if he had been drinking, Goff responded with "couple of beers earlier." When tested with a portable breathalyzer, the results showed a .364. Goff was then taken into custody for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. He was tested again at the Garland County Jail, where his test results came back as a .318 blood alcohol level.

17-year-old facing capital murder charges

MALVERN, Ark. (KTHV) - The murder of Jason "Snowman" Stovall led investigators to a 17-year-old boy who is now facing Capital Murder and Criminal Attempt Capital Murder charges. 

According to the Malvern Police Department, the teen was arrested May 26 and charged with capital murder and criminal attempt capital murder. He is currently being held in lieu of $100,000 cash or professional bond.

Police said the teen had apparently also been arrested in March and charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution.

Benton PD needs help locating runaway teen

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - The Benton Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding a 17-year-old who ran away from his home Thursday, April 23.

Christopher Bennett left his home Thursday, and according to reports, has not been seen from his parents since. 

Bennett is described as being a white male standing at approximately 5'6" tall and weighing at around 150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He is believed to still be in the central Arkansas area. 

Police stated that any person who knowingly harbors a runaway could face charges.

Police captures man wanted for stealing explosives

GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - The Garland County Sheriff's Office located and arrested a man that led police on a high speed chase Sunday, March 29 and ran into nearby woods leaving his female accomplice and sticks of dynamite behind in the vehicle. 

Deputies began pursuing Shannon Dale Smith, 43, and Kandyce Jones after receiving a tip of a possible kidnap, and their vehicle matched the description.

After a high-speed pursuit, deputies were able to pull over the suspects. Smith ran off into nearby woods, and Jones was taken into custody. She was charged with five counts of Criminal Possession of Explosives.  

Garland County deputies along with the U.S. Forest Service were able to locate Smith at a location on Iron Fork Lane. He is charged with five counts of Possession of Stolen Explosives.

Pulaski, Saline Co. see 12 arrests on 23 active felony bench warrants

UNDATED (KTHV) - Twelve individuals were taken into custody Monday, March 30 on 23 active felony bench warrants. 

The Saline County Sheriff's Office joined up with the Benton Police Department, Bryant Police Department and the United States Marshal's Service to conduct the arrests. According to officials, there were six teams comprised of over 30 deputies, U.S. agents and K-9 units holding the investigation.

 Following are the names, race, sex, ages and charges of the people arrested:

Garland County sheriff warns of jury duty phone scam

GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - Garland County Sheriff Michael McCormick is warning of an old phone scam that is making its rounds again.

Several Garland County residents have reported that they were contacted by phone and told that they had not reported for jury duty. The callers have identified themselves as being with the Garland County Sheriff's Department and that warrants had been issued for their arrest. The caller then tells victims that arrest could be avoided by purchasing a $500 debit card from Kroger. The caller then tells the victim to call them back with number of the debit card and the pin number.
