GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) -- A wife and daughter are dead, after being shot in their Hot Springs home. The suspected gunman is a family member.

55-year-old Eric Reid is behind bars Tuesday night, arrested for two counts of first degree murder charges."It's hard to predict and there's very little that law enforcement can do to prevent a situation like this," said Mike McCormick, Garland County Sheriff.

Something so rare to happen in this Fountain Lake neighborhood, which overlooks the Ouachita Mountains."It's actually a fairly quiet area and we have very little trouble," said McCormick.

That peace was broken Monday night, when the Garland County Sheriff's office responded to a 9-1-1 call.

"It was the actual daughter that called it in," said McCormick.

Police found 57-year-old Laura Reid and 32-year-old Mary Ann Reid dead.

They arrested Eric Reid, who is the husband to Laura and father to Mary Ann.

"He's been charged with two counts of first degree murder," said McCormick.THV11 spoke with a lot of the neighbors Tuesday and none of them would talk on-camera.However, they all said they were shocked this happened to these people and in this particular neighborhood.

"We're trying to conduct a thorough investigation and we're leaving no stones unturned," said McCormick.

Three other family members witnessed the shooting.

"We've interviewed all the individuals that were at the scene [including] two younger children," said McCormick.

Those children belonged to Mary Ann and went to Fountain Lake School District.

Laura worked in food services at the school.

Fountain Lake's superintendent Darin Beckwith gave this statement:"Fountain Lake School District would like to issue this official statement in regards to the untimely passing of one of our staff. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends. The district requests that we all honor their privacy during this difficult time."

"There was some discord in the family, and that's something were looking into further," said McCormick.Reid will be arraigned Wednesday over video.
