HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Oaklawn is taking its guests on a journey back in time to the 1960s during August and the special events include a musical showcase Aug. 17 featuring Peter Noone of Herman’s Hermits, The Grass Roots and The Buckinghams as well as ElvisPalooza Aug. 25.

The Finish Line Theater Concert Series continues with a special Saturday evening show featuring Classic Rock legend Peter Noone of the Herman’s Hermits. Hailing from England, Herman’s Hermits at one time rivaled The Beatles on the US charts thanks to such songs as “I'm Into Something Good,” “Mrs. Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter” and “Can't You Hear My Heartbeat.” The Grass Roots and The Buckinghams are both American bands, who ruled the charts in the late 60s. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and tickets go on sale Monday, Aug. 5. Tickets are either $20 or $30.

The spirit of the “King,” Elvis Presley, comes to life Aug. 25 during ElvisPalooza, which will celebrate one of the 60s most notable personalities with everything from his music to his favorite foods. The festivities start at 5 p.m. and will include a $5,000 prize drawing, $1 drink specials, $4.99 Fit for the King Buffet in Lagniappe’s and live music. Guests are encouraged to break out the rhinestone pantsuits for the $500 costume contest.

Oaklawn kicks off a series of Reel Tournaments for the first time in August. Players can come Monday for the Early Bird Tournaments, which start at 1 p.m. or Tuesday for the $4,500 Reel Tournaments that start at 6 p.m. Participants must be Winners Circle members and have earned points prior to the tournaments.

The region’s best horseplayers will go head to head in the $10,000 Handicapping Championship Series Final Saturday, Aug. 17 and Sunday, Aug. 18. The entry fee is $200 and the top three finishers will not only win prize money, but will also receive entry into the $1 million Horseplayers World Series in Las Vegas in March 2014.

Every Thursday in August, Oaklawn steps back in time with the $20,000 Blast from the Past promotion from 6-10 p.m. Three winners will be called every 15 minutes and two lucky people will win $400 at 10 p.m.

Lagniappe’s Restaurant offers a Barbeque special where guests can choose ribs or chicken every Wednesday from 5 – 10 p.m. Every Friday from 5 – 10 p.m. it’s Steak Night where guests can enjoy the best steak in Hot Springs or if they prefer, the catch of the day.
