New at Bryant Fall Fest: BBQ Contest, Beer Garden, Bubble Ball, Human Foosball

BRYANT, Ark. (City of Bryant) - We are sanctioned! The 28th Annual Fall Fest on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Bishop Park, 6401 Boone Road, will include a Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned competition, a backyard barbecue competition and an accompanying beer garden this year. The title sponsor for the BBQ event, Arkansas Craft Distributing, will bring us craft beers from Summit and Oskar Blues. $7,500 in prize money will be awarded in the KCBS event.

The event committee is also excited to announce the addition of a human Bubble Ball area, sponsored by GracePoint Church, and a human Foosball area provided by the City of Bryant. Fall Fest is presented by Landers of Saline County.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) – Mid-America Science Museum in Hot Springs has an exhibit that is up for grabs for a people's choice award.

It's called the skywalk and has science in every nook and cranny.

Skywalk itself is one large exhibit that showcases the natural splendor that surrounds the entire museum. It's part of the renovations to the museum.

"It's the only skywalk in the state, we're 40 feet above the ground, it's so interactive…enough going on that science is displayed above, below, and in between this above ground deck," said Jim Miller, the director of the museum.

"It's a California cedar that it's built with."

Miller showed THV11 around and pointed out all there is to do and the science behind it.

"It's one of most popular spots in here at the sky walk is the circular net – it operates like a trampoline."

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (Aug. 23, 2015) – Professional angler Brad Knight of Lancing, Tenn. crossed the stage with a five-bass limit weighing 11 pounds, 7 ounces Sunday to claim the title of Forrest Wood Cup Champion at the Forrest Wood Cup at Lake Ouachita presented by Walmart.

Knight, with a four-day total of 20 bass for 51-12, won by a 3-pound, 15-ounce margin over Ramie Colson Jr., of Cadiz, Kentucky, and won the $500,000 top award in professional bass fishing's world championship that featured 50 of the best professional anglers in the world casting for the sport's largest prize.

Alleged drunk driver hits and kills pedestrian in Hot Springs

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) - A drunk driver hit and killed a pedestrian on Central Avenue Wednesday night.

Police responded to a vehicle-pedestrian accident at around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the driver of a 1996 Acura Integra, James Goff. According to reports, Goff was traveling down Central Avenue, when he hit a pedestrian crossing between the Crosswalk Bar and Oaklawn Race Track.

Officials stated that the victim's injuries appeared severe, so he was transported to St. Vincent Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries while in the emergency room.

When asked if he had been drinking, Goff responded with "couple of beers earlier." When tested with a portable breathalyzer, the results showed a .364. Goff was then taken into custody for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. He was tested again at the Garland County Jail, where his test results came back as a .318 blood alcohol level.

Hot Springs National Park says goodbye to Champion Trees Exhibit

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) - Hot Springs National Park is bidding farewell to the “Arkansas Champion Trees: An Artist Journey” and welcomes the public to a special reception on September 10 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to honor artist Linda Williams Palmer at the Cultural Center on Bathhouse Row.

Light refreshments will be served courtesy of the Friends of Hot Springs National Park. The Cultural Center is located at the former Ozark Bathhouse and it is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. The final day of the Champion Trees exhibit is September 20.

According to the National Park Service, more than 2,400 visitors have browsed and enjoyed the Champion Trees exhibit since its opening in January 2015.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The Hot Springs Blues & BBQ Festival, presented by Budweiser, will be headlined by the Los Lonely Boys Saturday, Sept. 19 and Keb’ Mo’ Sunday, Sept. 20. The event, hosted jointly by Oaklawn and the Spa City Blues Society, will take place in Oaklawn’s infield, and will also feature some of the region’s best barbeque.

“We are very excited to bring the Los Lonely Boys and Keb’ Mo’ to Hot Springs,” said Rob Pratt, President of the Spa City Blues Society. “Partnering with Oaklawn has really allowed us to take this event to a whole new level.”
